The Purple Bookmark is passionate about how books can touch our lives. Regularly my wife Chocolate Girl and I will recommend books to one another and to others. For years we have had great joy in sharing great reads and then observing others become passionate about books and the ideas that they grow in their lives.
Chocolate Girl just recently completed reading Three Cups of Tea and as she read it she kept saying “you have to read this book!” A carful reader will observe that this is not just a suggestion she is making but an imperative. Therefore as I understand resistance is futile I shall comply.
Included in her “instructions” was to use Three Cups of Tea for the Premier of the Purple Prose Book Club. I have learned that her recommendations are always good and so when I picked up the book and looked at the back I read…
In 1993 a mountaineer named Greg Mortenson drifted into an impoverished Pakistan village in the Karakoram mountains after a failed attempt to climb K2. Moved by the inhabitants’ kindness, he promised to return and build a school. Three Cups of Tea is the story of that promise and its extraordinary outcome. Over the next decade Mortenson built not just one but fifty-five-schools-especially for girls-in the forbidding terrain that gave birth to the Taliban. His story is at once riveting adventure and a testament to the power of the humanitarian spirit.
Thus our Purple Prose Book Club will start with a conversation about this story of Three Cups of Tea…over a course of weeks we will talk about the vice and virtue of the book.
Saturday August 15 will be our start date for this conversation and it will include the introduction along with chapter one of Three Cups of Tea. So find a copy of Three Cups of Tea and join us for our Purplish talk…a community book review of sorts…it may just change our lives…
Remember we start Saturday August 15…..
Does Three Cups of Tea seem an enticing read? Join us over a cup of tea….

I started to read that book and got bored after a couple of pages but I think I will pick it up again for my summer read. See you in August. Come collect me if I forget.
Hey Ruth!!!!!
ROFL Well we shall see if we can make it through the book then! In the future we were also thinking of The Shack…
We are going to try to be quite creative in how we approach everything here in the Land of Purple so perhaps we can infuse the book with some energy…
